Let’s start by knowing more about the dish aloo chop..Aloo chop is an Indian deep fried snack originated from Indian subcontinent..This is one of the most famous street food sold across odisha and bengal.

It is called as aloo chop because these are made in round shaped mashed potatoes stuffing dipped in a batter of gram flour..This is one if my favorite snack and in my family we make it once in a while and also bring from outside..but I would say to try this delicious recipe at home as home-cooked is always good.

Aloo chops are combined with green chutney or tomato sauce and also many prefer to have it with garlic tomato chutney which makes the snack even more spicier..This stuffing to make this snack is quite easy..a nice flavor of ginger garlic gives it a very authentic taste..Don’t think of it as a general street food, it just tastes too good..even you can stuff aloo chops in you bread and just grab it like a sandwich..

As you can see how delicious the stuffing looks..just mouthwatering!!..So don’t forget to know more about delicious Indian food at my vegan kitchen..Now let’s start preparing by listing the ingredients:-
Ingredients to make the stuffing
7 to 8 mashes potatoes
1 teaspoon grated ginger
2 chopped green chili
1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
2 pinches asafoetida
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon dry chilli flakes
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
Some chopped coriander leaves
1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt/according to your taste
3 table spoon mustard oil/cooking oil
Ingredients for batter
3 cups gram flour
1 teaspoon carom seeds
1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 pinches baking soda
Water accordingly
Oil to deep fry
Method
Let’s prepare aloo chops/potato chops by making the stuffing..start by mashing the boiled potatoes.

Make sure to not mash too much..a crumbly texture is what the dish needs..Now put a pan on the gas..add oil..heat on high flame..then put the mustard seeds to pop..add ginger, garlic and asafoetida and chopped green chilliaccording to the quantity mentioned.
NOTE-To get the most from the spices i would suggest to grind ginger, garlic and green chilli together..so that the flavors comes out well.

Now as you can see the spices has been added to the oil..use a spatula to mix the spice in medium flame for just some Seconds and then add the mashed potatoes into it..add salt , turmeric powder and Chilli flakes into it..mix all the spices well for an even texture nad color.. mix in medium flame for 2 minutes and then switch off the gas..sprinkle the chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

NOTE-You can use this stuffing for samosa and also as a stuffing for potato sandwich.
To make the batter for aloo chop..take a container..add gram flour,salt, baking soda and carom seeds..dry mix well and then slowly add water to make a semi thick batter , so that it can stick around the potato balls well.make sure to mix the batter well to avoid any lumps.
NOTE-The batter is an important part of the dish..if it will be too runny the dish is not going to come out well as expected..it must a bit thicker in texture to stick around the potato balls well.

Now make balls out of the stuffing just like this by greasing your hands with a bit of oil.

Put a pan on the gas to deep fry the balls by dipping it well one by one inside the batter.
Check the temperature of oil before adding the potato balls..sprinkle some batter and if it starts to bubble..the oil is hot enough to deep fry..now put potato balls according to space in your pan..you can put 2 or 3 at once.

Now fry in medium flame until it turns very light golden..remove it to oil paper to soak any access oil and aloo chops are ready to be served..👍👍enjoy this yum with your favorite sauce.
