Ingredients to make masala aloo

A very tangy and delicious mixture of tomatoes,onions and spices is prepared to make masala aloo, lets list them below-

  • 6 to 7 boiled potatoes
  • 2 finley chopped onions
  • 2 finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoon mustard oil

Tip-While cooking food in mustard oil,make sure to cook the oil first.As the mustard oil starts to heat,bubbles are formed, let the bubbles disappear.By cooking the oil first,the sharpness of mustard flavor is avoided and a mild and warm taste is what makes the food healthier and authentic.

How to make masala aloo

Start making masala aloo by putting an oval pan on gas.Let the pan be dry completely.Pour the oil and cook it first.As the mustard oil becomes bubble free, add the onions.Cooking onions first is a great way to avoid the rawness it serves.Cook on medium flame.Now as the onions turn golden,add the chopped tomatoes into it.Saute well.Now put the turmeric powder, chilli powder and garam masala.Mix all the ingredients well and cook in medium flame.

As the mixture become soft in texture,add 1/2 cup water and salt.Mix well.Make sure to not add any more water as it will change the texture of the dish.

Tip-If you want to make Indian potato curry than you can add more water in the mixture of ingredients and then add potato.It will make the curry soupy.

Now put the potatoes and mash each one a bit.As it is not a mashed potato recipe, don’t mash it too much.Mix all the ingredients using a spatula.Cook for two to three minutes and transfer it to a serving bowl.And this delicious masala aloo is ready.Roll it in roti or mix it with rice.
