Dal bhaji is a very flavorful and tasty Indian dal/lentil recipe.As the name says,it is a very delicious combination of daal which is lentil and bhaji is a fried vegetable dish.

This dal bhaji is cooked the same way, bhaji in paav is cooked with a twist of lentils in it.The flavors and the taste is too authentic.

This Dal bhaji is a restaurant style Indian dish which is a rich combination of spices,vegetables and lentil.Though it sounds more like vegetable Dal, the ingredients used are different and also the taste.

Indian foods can be spiced up in so many ways and specially when we cook curries and lentils at home,the twist and turns are unbeatable.Combining foods together and cooking something completely different and tasty is an art and our moms have aced these skills so well.

It took me around 20 minutes apart from the preparation to make this delicious dal bhaaji and when I came to know about this yum I would say you don’t need anything else with this.Its a perfect example of flavorful Indian food.

Ingredients to make dal bhaji

1 cup moong dal/yellow lentils

2 cups small chopped cabbage

1 cup small chopped cauliflower

1/2 cup small chopped capsicum

1 bunch spinach leaves

2 small chopped tomatoes

2 small chopped onions

Spices

1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste

1 tablespoon red chilli powder

1 tablespoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

1 tablespoon pav bhaji masala

1 inch stick cinnamon

1 star anise

1 tablespoon salt

3 tablespoon mustard oil

2 tablespoon butter

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon mustard seeds

Preparation

Before going through the detailed direction,let’s begin with the initial preparation.Boil the veggies well directly in a pressure cooker.

Boil the soaked yellow lentils directly in a pressure cooker by adding 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder.

Directions

To make dal bhaji,put a pan on the gas, let it be completely dry, now add the oil.Let the oil be hot to sauté the spices well.Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.As it starts to pop, add the ginger garlic paste,cinnamon stick and star anise.Now put the chopped tomato and onions.Mix well in medium flame for two to three minutes.

Then add the dry spices like red chilli powder,coriander powder,garam masala.Keep stirring.cook in medium flame until the tomatoes and all the other spices mix up well.

Keep cooking the spices until it becomes soft in medium flame.Now add the spinach leaves.Mix well.Add 1/2 cup water and cook again for 2 to 3 minutes.

Then add the boiled vegetables and pav bhaji masala.Cook all the ingredients well again.Let the veggies absorb the spices well by cooking for another few minutes

Add the boiled dal/lentil.Mix well and add salt.Let it come to boiling point and then close the lid to cook in low to medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes more.Add butter for extra taste and mix well.
