How to make masala lauki/lauki curry recipe

Masala lauki is one of the most delicious and simple to cook Indian curry.Lauki or bottle gourd which is one the most popular veggie in Indian market is a tricky vegetable to cook the right way.

Masala lauki is a spicy and tasty bottle gourd recipe.As lauki is one of those sweet vegetable which is also full of water.While cooking lauki, we don’t need to add any extra water unless the weather is too dry.Because during extreme heat,the water content lessens.

The taste of Masala lauki is absolutely authentic.It is called as masala lauki because of the added spices it it.This slow cooked lauki recipe can be combined with rice, roti or with your favorite flatbread.When it comes to bottle gourd/lauki, everyone has their own way of cooking it.Some like the simple boiled curry and other like to eat it spicy.

Lauky is also known to be used as a weight loss vegetable.Because of its high water content, it is highly used in weight loss management.

How to make masala lauky/lauky curry

I have used simple ingredients to make masala lauki.Chopping it into small pieces makes it more tastier by getting mixed into the spices well.

This masala lauki is spiced up with small chopped tomatoes ,ginger garlic paste and other spices.


1 medium sized lauki/bottle gourd(small chopped )

2 medium sized small chopped tomato

1 and 1/2 table spoon ginger garlic paste

1 teaspoon red chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon mustard seeds

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoon oil

2 long chopped green chilli


Start by heating the pan on high flame,let the oil be hot completely and add oil.Then add the mustard and cumin seeds.As soon as it pops well, add the ginger garlic paste and Mix well.Now put the chopped bottle gourd.Then add the salt and turmeric powder into it.

You can add 1 cup water for boiling it if the curry seems too dry to avoid sticking it to the pan.Now add the chopped tomatoes and mix well again.As it starts to boil, lower the flame and cook until the lauki/bottle gourd curry becomes semi cooked.At this point add the red chilli powder and stir well.Lower the flame again and cook for another few minutes until the Lauki turns soft and well cooked.
