Moong dal recipe/Yellow lentils

To cook yellow lentils, simple kitchen ingredients have been used, so let’s compile the ingredients first and then proceed to step step cooking plan.

Ingredients

1 cup yellow lentils

1 and 1/2 cup water for boiling

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 and 1/2 teaspoon salt

1 red chilli

1 teaspoon chilli powder

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 tablespoon clarified butter/Salted butter

Presley leaves for garnishing(optional)

Directions

Soak yellow lentils 1/2 an hour before cooking for the perfect texture.Wash off well.Now take a pressure cooker,put the lentils,turmeric powder and salt.Add water and close the lid.Put it on gas on high flame until it whistles 3 times.

Cooked yellow lentils

As soon as the moong dal/yellow lentils gets cooked and the whistle settles, open the lid of pressure cooker.Stir using a spoon to check the consistency.If the lentils seem too thick, add some warm water to continue the process with desired consistency.

Now take an oval spoon for making a quick tadka,mop the spoon nicely, add butter, put it on low flame.Heat for few seconds and switch off the gas.Now put the cumin seeds and red chilli.

Making of tadka for yellow lentils/moong dal

As the cumin seeds start to turn golden add the chili powder, mix using a spoon and pour it all over the cooked lentils/moong dal.And that’s it.

Pouring the mixture of spices into the lentils/moong dal

Mix well and serve with rice or roti.This is the quickest and the most delicious way to cook moong dal.
