Hello and Namaste world🙏🙏
I m back with another traditional yum.Ukadiche Modak! Modak is a dessert widely famous in India and specially in Maharashtra..The taste and texture is soo good..As Ganpati bappa🙏🙏making his ways to our homes in 3 days..Ukadiche modak is a must..Modak is known to be the most favorite of Shri Ganesha🙏So, on the very auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturti, it is being prepared at temples and homes for Ganpati bappa as Prasad and then distributing it to the devotees..It is believed that Mata Parvati used to make modak for Lord Ganesha as it is his favorite..
The most traditional and one of the healthiest version of modak is, Ukadiche Modak as it made using rice flour and then making a stuffing out of coconut and jaggery and then filing it inside the rice flour dough..I loved the taste and texture of Ukadiche Modak..So let’s start making this very authentic and traditional dessert Ukadiche Modak.
1 cup rice flour
2 cups water
1 and 1/2 cup grated coconut
1/2 cup chopped cashews
3/4 cup jaggery
1 table spoon white sesame seeds
1 table spoon ghee/non salted butter
To make ukadiche modak the first thing we need to do is, preparing the dough..
Take a pan..add water..let it be warm, then add the rice flour..stir continuously..it will take a dough like texture in two to three minutes..keep it aside for 5 minutes to cool down..then knead it well by adding 1/2 table spoon butter for a lumpfree dough. just like this.
Now take another pan for making the stuffing..Put it on high flame..let it be dry completely..add ghee/butter..then add the sesame seeds to roast just for some seconds..then add the grated coconut and jaggery and chopped cashews.. mix well.. add 1/3 cup water to let the jaggery melt easily..now cook in medium flame to let it be a moist and sticky mixture..
Make 2 and 1/2 inches ball out of the rice flour dough..press in the middle to make small bowl like shapes..then put 1 table spoon of stuffing inside it..
Now fold the edges and bring it to the top to make a temple like shape..and then giving mild edges using a knife or the back side of a spoon for a perfect modak look..
Tip:- pressing lightly using the backside of a spoon or knife gives it a very clean and beautiful look.check the GIF below for the exact look.
Now make all the modak the same way and then put your steamer on high flame..any steamer will be perfectly ok..I have steamed it in my idli steamer..simply grease the molds using a little melted butter..put the modaks and then steam for atleast 8 to 10 minutes and the most amazing dessert Ukadiche Modak is ready for lord Ganesha first and then for us all.
