How to make uttapam/uttapam recipe

Easy to make and delicious uttapam

Uttapam is a very famous South Indian dish made using rice batter and the good thing about uttapam is, it is easy to make, healthy and so amazing in taste.It is a type of thick dosa with some toppings.

The utthapam recipe i have brought today is a bit different because I have not used any black split gram or urad daal into this recipe .Te texture is soft to bite.

While writing on this recipe i still remember, during my childhood uttapam was one of the most frequent food in the evening because it is one of our favorite.

Uttapam is combined with chana daal chutney or tomato sauce and also can be eaten solely.Great for breakfast and for evening snacks.

Now lets begin the process of making uttapam by listing the easily available ingredients in the kitchen.

Ingredients

2 cups of rice

1 cup of flattened rice(poha)

1 small cup chopped tomato

1 small cup chopped onions

2 to 3 finely chopped green chillies

Salt to taste

Oil to roast

Some chopped coriander leaves(optional)

Method

To make uttapam, put both rice and flattened rice together in a container.Wash off well and then soak it well upto 5 to 6 hours.After the soaking process, simply grind both rice and flattened rice together to make a smooth granule free batter.

Make a semi thick batter..pour into a container and then add salt..mix well using an oval spoon..Now put a non-stick flat pan and preheat on high flame..

In this period of time, Mix chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies and salt together.

Toppings for uttapam

now pour around 1/2 cup batter and spread using the spoon a bit.You don’t have to spread too much because uttapams are thick in texture..then put the toppings on top of the batter.Spread 1 table spoon oil around and on top.

Preparation of uttapam

I have put two uttapams together..You can make one at a time.Now press the topping gently using a flat spoon which is used to flip pancakes.cook in low to medium flame.Flip when the batter looks dried up.and then again pour some oil around.roast for few minutes more and the delicious uttapams are ready to be served.Garnish with coriander leaves if you like the flavor.
