How to make masala khichdi/khichdi recipe

Delicious masala khichdi made using veggies and spices

hello everyone 👋 searching for a delicious food recipe?..Here I have come with one of the most tasty khichdi or Indian porridge recipe made using a mixture of rice and yellow lentils sautéed in small chopped veggies and spices.

khichdi is a very traditional and authentic food..It is made in a very simple way and the taste is soo good..You can have khichdi anytime of the day..A bowl of khichdi is soo fulfilling when cooked the right way.I have brought the recipe of masala khichdi which is made using rice, yellow lentils,small chopped veggies and some spices.

Back to traditional times it is made in different varieties,also it is called by different names in different states of India..It is said that khichdi tastes better during the rains and the winter because it gives a warm filling and the taste comes out good when it is warm..The texture is smooth and it is easy to digest..So let’s start making this yum quick by listing the ingredients first.


1 cup maata rice/rosematta rice/mota chawal

1 cup yellow split lentils or a little less

1/2 small chopped tomato

1/2 cup small chopped began/eggplant

1/2 cup small chopped long beans

1 small chopped potato

1 table spoon salt

1 tea spoon chilli powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 Bayless

11tablespoon cumin seeds

3 tablespoon ghee/butter

coriander leaves for flavor (optional)


Before starting the process of making khichdi, make sure to soak the rice and ketils together for 1/2 an hour before cooking.

soak this mixture for 1/2an hour

After it is soaked up well..wash off nicely..Take a pressure cooker..Make sure to take a medium sized cooker because the food will double up when cooked up.. Put it on high flame..add ghee/butter into it..let it be warm.Add cumin seeds and bay leaf..Let the seeds be golden, then add the tomatoes into it.mix well.Add chilli powder and turmeric powder..stir..cook in medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes until the tomatoes becomes soft in texture..then add the veggies..TIP-If you don’t have all the veggies available, atleast two type of veggies are completely ok..Now mix all the veggies well..

Then add the rice and lentils into it..add salt..stir

Khichdi mixture in pressure cooker

Now add around triple quantity of two cups of rice and lentils, add 5 and 1/2 cups of water for a perfect khichdi texture..Mix well after adding water..close the cooker cap and let it whistle for 5 to 6 times in high flame..switch of the gas and let it cool down..Open it and you will see a semi thick porridge texture..If ever if feels dry, add some warm water to get the perfect texture.

15 minutes Masala khichdi is ready.

you don’t really need anything to combine with khichdi but also you can have it with your favorite curry or curd👍enjoyy
